Chapter 63: Slithering Snake
Chapter 63: Slithering Snake
Alex was back on the road soon after and Jason didn’t even attempt to do anything, he maintained his quiet and Alex appreciated his cooperation.
Bella was waiting for an opening but for some reason, it never came.
She didn’t know how Alex did it but no one could exploit his weakness, it was almost like he didn’t have any.
He was a tactician and also a man that had no problems sacrificing others for his mission.
He was given the mission to retrieve Bella and in actuality, he had every intention of killing Max and John himself because he understood what their intentions with Bella were.
They could kill Bella and say the zombies got her, no one would question it but luckily, Bella found capable people to protect her.
Alex knew that this would cause problems and this was why he was assigned to go with Max and John, it was to keep an eye on them.
But in an unexpected moment, Alex was caught off guard as the forest that they were travelling through had a tree branch that smacked him right in the face, prompting the handle on the rope he was using to guide the prisoner to loosen.
The rope dropped to the ground and Bella’s eyes met Alex.
They knew what was about to happen, there was an unexpected opening that she had every intention of exploiting.
The problem was that Bella’s rope was connected to that of Jason, whatever action she was going to take, Jason had to act in unison.
Alex moved to retrieve the rope but Bella tried to run, she thought that Jason would follow but Jason stood in place.
"What the fuck are you doing! Run!" Bella barked but Jason was unresponsive, Bella knew she had to act fast so she shoved Jason towards Alex and fortunately for her, Jason tumbled over Alex and the tension managed to sever the rope binding Bella.
Bella ran and Jason quickly got off Alex, he looked frustrated that she escaped because he wanted Bella to experience whatever it was that these people planned for her.
Alex wasn’t getting up, he looked at the sky and just took a deep breath.
Everything felt like it was in vain and Alex could tell by Jason’s desperate look that he had a bone to pick with Bella.
"I see, she played you too," Alex muttered, dusting himself off the ground but he didn’t look worried.
"Aren’t you going to chase her!?" Jason asked but Alex wasn’t responding.
"Move it..." Alex said, tugging the rope but this was where Jason had a problem.
He wanted to chase Bella but he knew that he couldn’t because, like Sam, he couldn’t read the stats of the man before him showing that he was a superior fighter.
Jason kissed his teeth because he knew that his window had passed but why didn’t he try to escape the moment the opportunity presented itself?
It almost felt like Jason had something else planned and he wasn’t going to allow even his dislike for Bella to ruin it.

A few hours had passed since Bella’s escape, Sam was trailing them but they too took a rest the previous night but they woke up earlier than the people they were trailing because they had a lot more ground to cover.
Sam and the rest were closer than they were the day before, Sam was an excellent tracker and was following the footprints that were everywhere.
Sam was relieved that they had not met any zombies or they might have been forced to waste the limited amount of ammunition on them.
Sam had carried the bags with him but as they got closer, he buried them in strategic positions; he had enough ammunition to fend for himself as a bag was left strapped around his shoulder.
Rachel had an assault rifle strapped to her back with a pistol tucked in her back.
Sam was glad that things were going according to plan, he was happy that they were going to see this camp.
He was surprised that Rachel was willing to let her sister hang back with the kids even though they were Clementine’s little project.
It was either she had immense faith in her younger sister or she was stupid.
Clementine was worried about what Sam would do, she knew that Sam would kill anyone that threatens him, even if the threat was low.
Clementine was losing her grip on Sam but she had to keep him grounded otherwise Sam would run rampant and no one would be able to stop him if he ever reaches that stage.
"Sam, don’t get carried away," Clementine said but Sam wasn’t listening, all he had was a creepy smile on his face as they neared the camp.
They soon reached the sign of the struggle where Bella had escaped and this further told them that they were on the right track.
Sam was glad that they were because it meant that they were on the right track and this was where he buried the last bag of weapons he had.
"We’re close, you all should get your weapons ready. I have a feeling that the two of you will die," Sam said and Rachel tensed up but she felt a gentle hand on her back.
"He is just joking..." Clementine reassured her and she was right. Sam was becoming a bit too loose with his words.
"What is our method of approach?" Clementine asked Sam, he was the one in charge of this operation.
"We will have to wait until nightfall, we will use the cover of the night to our advantage," Sam said but he suddenly turned with a pistol drawn.
"W-What are you doing!?" Rachel asked because the gun was pointed right at her.
"Come out," Sam commanded sternly and Rachel realized that the gun wasn’t pointed at her but beyond her. The rustling of leaves behind her forced her to look behind.
"You cannot wait until nightfall, he won’t survive," A voice said which was revealed to be Bella.
